Why Such High Energy Bills?

As the days get shorter and we come upon winter, are you having traumatic flashbacks remembering last year’s bills? You might be second-guessing yourself and your household set up, but the good news is there are ways to control the high bills. Learning the reasons why you have high energy bills in the first place will give you directions to proceed to save money on your bills.

Clogged Filters. Unchanged air filters lead to home air-conditioning units and heating systems breaking down. Neglected air filters also mean the air-conditioning unit or dryer works harder, using more energy.

Dust. As you are stocking the refrigerator shelves, get out your duster. The coils under the refrigerator are usually blanketed in dust, indicating your appliance is working harder and costing you more money.

Old Light Bulbs. The simplest thing you could do is to change a light bulb. So if you’re looking to save money on your next energy bill, try replacing all of your current light bulbs with more energy-efficient LED ones. While initially a little more expensive, over time you will save money.

Old Appliances. If you have old appliances plugged in somewhere that never get used, all they’re doing is sucking up energy and money out of your wallet. They may seem like “classics,” but they aren’t helping that energy bill. Consider donating them, or if you really want to keep them, unplug them from the electrical outlet.

Unplug. Just because something is off, doesn’t mean it’s really off. If you’re going on vacation or will be away from your home for an extended period of time, consider unplugging all big appliances including your televisions, small kitchen appliances, your washer and dryer, computer, or anything else you can easily reach.
